GIVING

SoHo Yoga collects a gold coin donation for mat hire that is distributed to local or relevant charities on a regular basis. Since our foundation in September 2014 SoHo Yoga and our students have raised in excess of $20,000 for various causes below.

DEC 2023

This festive season we opted to not to buy team gifts but instead chose to donate to causes that are close to their hearts. SoHo Yoga donated $75 each to the UN Refugee Agency, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Butterfly Foundation and Beyond Blue.

A further $100 raised in gold coin donations for mat hire was donated to the Australian Red Cross to support victims of the floods in Far North QLD.

NOV 2023

We do Black Friday differently. For every Gift Voucher sold on Black Friday weekend, we donated 25% to Medicins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders). SoHo Yoga’s Black Friday Fundraiser donated $957.50 to MSF to support their humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

Sep 2023

SoHo Yoga donated $107.50 to a Go Fund Me campaign to support the PNG based family of former SoHo student and fellow yoga teacher, Roxy Aila. Roxy’s niece Sybil suffers from a heart condition, Tetralogy of Fallot, and required urgent corrective heart surgery in India. Sybil is now recovering at home and doing well.

DEC 2022

Instead of a Christmas Party this year, SoHo Yoga matched gold coin donations for mat hire in the December quarter and put food on the table for local families in need. With the help of our students we donated a total of $425 to the Foodbank Australia Christmas Appeal.

SEP 2022

A donation of $262 to The Healing Foundation will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people communities to address ongoing trauma. Healing is a holistic process, which addresses mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs and involves connections to culture, family and land.

MAR 2022

Many in our community were impacted by the devastating floods in Feb & March of 2022. Proceeds from all classes on the weekend of 5 & 6 March totalling $1630 were donated to GIVIT to help those affected by storms and flooding in QLD and NSW.

SoHo Yoga supplemented gold coin donations from students to donate $500 worth of grocery vouchers via Givit to local families in need at Christmas, plus an additional $500 to the Kerry Rooney memorial fund (see below).

In response to the tragic death of a local father in a domestic violence incident, SoHo Yoga matched gold coin donations from students and contributed $175 to the Kerry Rooney memorial fund to support his 10 year old son, Remy.

MAR 2021

During the first quarter of 2021 SoHo students raised $308 in gold coin donations for mat hire and community classes for DVConnect. DVConnect help Queenslanders find pathways to safety, away from domestic, family and sexual violence.

Our inaugural SoHo Yoga Christmas Raffle raised an incredible $1,020 for WWF Australia. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets which will help WWF restore and revitalise our wildlife and landscapes for the future of all Australians.

Our fundraising efforts took a hit this year since students have mostly been bringing their own mats to class! Still we are delighted to have donated $260 to The Smith Family to purchase toys and books for disadvantaged kids this Christmas.

The first quarter of 2020, $440 in gold coin donations was raised for Rural Aid, helping farmers and rural communities across Australia who have suffered from some of the most extreme weather conditions ever recorded.

In light of the tragic bushfires affecting Australia, we did not hold a Christmas party this festive season. Instead SoHo Yoga matched all gold coin donations for mat hire during December and together we raised a total of $578 in support of WIRES, to help save and rehabilitate native wildlife affected by the bushfires.

NOV 2019

Industrial farming is one of the leading causes of our current environmental issues. SoHo students raised $262 to support the Carbon8 initiative, helping to transition Aussie farmers to regenerative agriculture and support them to rebuild the carbon (organic matter) in their soil, reduce emissions and increase biodiversity.

Last quarter SoHo Yogis raised $346 for So Brave, Australia’s young women’s breast cancer charity. So Brave exist to raise awareness that young women get breast cancer too, to raise funds for research to change future outcomes, and to empower young women with breast cancer through creative artistic expression.

$410 was raised in the Apr - June quarter in support of the Australian Conservation Foundation. ACF is Australia's national environment organisation and speak out for a world where forests, rivers, people and wildlife thrive. Right now, a pollution and extinction crisis threatens our living world. But together we can solve it.

A cause close to SoHo Yoga founder Amanda’s heart, $306 raised in the Oct - Dec quarter supported Endometriosis Australia, helping increase recognition of endometriosis and support education and research into this ‘silent’ but often debilitating disease affecting one in ten women in Australia.

Every month thousands of women have to choose between buying sanitary products or buying food. In the July - Sept quarter SoHo students raised $472 for Share the Dignity to ensure vulnerable and at risk women in Australia have the dignity they deserve.

With winter approaching the beneficiary of $732 in our autumn campaign was local design award winning charity Street Swags. Street Swags exists to provide tangible, practical solutions to those in need in our community, sleeping rough and experiencing homelessness.

DEC 2017

In recognition of World Mental Health week which takes place each October, $983 raised in the last quarter of 2017 will once again go to support The Black Dog Institute. The Black Dog Institute is a world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.

We're delighted to have raised $1,132 for the Vikas Project in our Jun - Sept quarterly campaign. Vikas Project (meaning growth & development) is a registered India NGO providing education, medical, housing and art programs to families in tent camps, in the desert city of Pushkar in Rajasthan.

Our Apr - Jun campaign raised $902 for Stop The Traffik. Australian based Stop The Traffik believe people shouldn’t be bought and sold. They exist to bring an end to people trafficking in the fashion, fishing, tea and chocolate industries.

The beneficiary of our Jan - Mar campaign was the Preemptive Love Coalition. SoHo students raised $925 to help bring relief to families fleeing war in Syria and Iraq, help refugees rebuild their lives, and provide lifesaving medical care for children in conflict zones.

The recipient of $850 raised in our Oct - Dec campaign was Hummingbird House. Hummingbird House will be Queensland's only children's hospice providing world-class respite and end of life care for children with a life-limiting condition and their families.

Our Jul - Sep campaign raised $692 for Micah Projects Inc. Micah Projects provide a range of support and advocacy services to individuals and families in Brisbane including the Brisbane Homelessness Centre, Lotus Place and the Brisbane Domestic Violence Service.

The recipient of $747 raised in the Apr-Jun quarter was Animals Australia. Animals Australia is Australia’s foremost animal protection organisation. Their mission is to investigate, expose and raise community awareness of animal cruelty.

An incredible $1,100 was raised in the Jan - Mar quarter in support of The Red Cross 'Refugees & Asylum Seekers in Crisis' campaign. Funds raised will allow Red Cross to expand their humanitarian work to improve the plight of asylum seekers and refugees across Australia.

The recipient of $604 raised in our Oct - Dec quarterly campaign was The Black Dog Institute, world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.

The recipient of $410 raised in our Dec - Feb quarterly campaign was FHEAL. The Friends of HEAL Foundation exists to provide creative arts psychotherapy to young people of refugee backgrounds in Brisbane schools.

The worthy recipient of $350 raised by SoHo Yoga students in our first quarterly campaign was So They Can. So They Can supports the education and empowerment of communities in Africa SO THEY CAN break the poverty cycle, enabling them to meet their own needs and become self sufficient.
