The most traditional of all yoga practices is meditation. For centuries yoga was synonymous with meditation, and only in recent decades has the physical practice of yoga asana become predominant. But meditation remains at the heart of all yoga lineages, and just as yoga asana practices and styles have evolved over the years, so have meditation techniques.

Mindfulness as a form of meditation was coined by medical Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn, and has become globally recognised as a therapeutic practice for stress-reduction, but the techniques draw heavily upon centuries old yoga traditions.

In this workshop we will explore some of the historical roots of meditation and how it evolved across the centuries and around the globe. We will review some of the most recent research findings on the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation as a tool for stress-reduction, and learn mindfulness techniques that are simple, effective and accessible to all.
