Holding Space: The Essentials of Trauma-Informed Yoga

In the modern landscape of wellness, being a great yoga teacher requires more than just physical expertise. It requires an understanding of how the body stores experience. As we look ahead to the February 2027 Therapeutic Yoga intake, one of our most vital modules is the 35HR Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training.

This module is designed for those who want to move beyond the physical "instruction" and learn the art of creating a truly safe and inclusive sanctuary for every student who walks through the door.

The Body Keeps the Score

Trauma is not just a mental or emotional event; it is a physiological one. When a person experiences a high-stress or traumatic event, their nervous system can become "stuck" in a state of hyper-arousal or dissociation. Because yoga interacts directly with the nervous system, it can be a powerful tool for healing, but it must be approached with extreme care.

What is Trauma-Informed Yoga?

Being trauma-informed means recognizing that any student in your class may be carrying an invisible history. Our 35-hour module focuses on:

  • Choice-Based Language: Learning how to offer invitations rather than commands, giving power back to the student.

  • The Neurobiology of Trauma: Understanding how the brain and body respond to stress and how yoga can help "re-wire" these pathways.

  • Safe Sequencing: Avoiding postures or adjustments that might be triggering or disempowering.

  • Creating a "Safe Container": Managing the studio environment, from lighting and music to your physical positioning in the room.

Empowerment Through Education

This module is a cornerstone of the 150HR Therapeutic Yoga pathway. For teachers, it is an essential skill set for working in community settings, mental health spaces, or simply making your general classes more accessible. For enthusiastic students, it offers a framework to understand your own triggers and how to use yoga as a self-regulation tool.

By choosing this training for 2027, you are committing to a style of teaching that prioritises the student’s agency and internal experience above the external shape of the pose.
